ELEGBEJI REAFFIRMS SUPPORT FOR SPECIAL SEATS BILL FOR WOMEN
HON DR PRINCESS ADESOLA AYOOLA-ELEGBEJI REAFFIRMS SUPPORT FOR SPECIAL SEATS BILL FOR WOMEN
Earlier this week, I signed in support of the Special Seats Bill for Women at the National Assembly.
The Bill was first introduced in the 9th Assembly by Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, with firm backing from the then Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila. It has now returned in the 10th Assembly through the leadership of the Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, and other lawmakers committed to expanding gender inclusion.
The proposal seeks to create additional seats for women in the Senate, House of Representatives, and State Houses of Assembly.
It opens the political space.
It strengthens representation.
It allows women to contest existing seats while guaranteeing a minimum level of participation nationwide.
Nigeria cannot continue with low female representation. Women power our economy, our communities, and our homes. Their voices deserve to be heard at every level of decision-making.
Passing this Bill will bring balance to governance and improve outcomes in health, education, welfare, economic empowerment, and family support.
I urge colleagues, leaders, and citizens to stand behind this important step.
An inclusive National Assembly builds a stronger and more stable Nigeria.
Hon Dr Princess Adesola Ayoola-Elegbeji
Member, House of Representatives
Ikenne / Sagamu / Remo North Federal Constituency
