HON. DR. PRINCESS ADESOLA AYOOLA-ELEGBEJI MOVES MOTION ON THE REHABILITATION OF THE DILAPIDATED IBERE RIVER BRIDGE IN EMUREN, SAGAMU, OGUN STATE

Earlier today at plenary, I raised a motion calling the urgent attention of the House to the worsening condition of the Ibere River Bridge in Emuren, Sagamu, Ogun State.

The bridge serves as a major link between Emuren and surrounding communities, supporting daily movement, local trade, and general economic activity. Despite its previous inclusion in a Federal Road Maintenance Contract, only a superficial overlay was carried out, leaving the key structural defects unattended.

I informed the House that the bridge now shows clear signs of distress. Cracks on the deck, sinking portions, exposed foundations, and corroded reinforcements pose serious risks, especially during the rainy season when erosion further weakens the structure. This situation threatens the safety of road users and the economic stability of the area.

I urged the Federal Ministry of Works and the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency to fulfil their statutory responsibility by carrying out a full structural assessment and a comprehensive rehabilitation of the bridge.

Resolutions adopted by the House include:
• An urgent directive to the Federal Ministry of Works and FERMA to undertake full rehabilitation of the Ibere River Bridge.
• A mandate to the Committees on Works and FERMA to visit the site, assess the true state of the bridge, review previous interventions, and ensure a more effective and durable plan of action.

This step reinforces my commitment to strengthening infrastructure, protecting lives, and supporting the growth of communities across Emuren, Sagamu, and the entire Remo Federal Constituency.
